To: Elmer Flugum who wrote (2830 ) 1/26/2003 4:50:29 PM From: Hawkmoon Respond to of 15987 From 1961 until 1969, United States nuclear inspectors were quietly sent into Israel's secret reactor at Dimona in the Negev Desert. 1. It was a US effort, with no apparent mandate by the UN. 2. The US was playing politics with Israel's existence in a manner that Eshkol couldn't condone. There was NO actual, OR IMPLIED, security guarantees being offered by the US. In fact, there was very little US military or economic support at that time either. 3. Israel's possession of nuclear weapons has NOT destabilized the region. Because they have NEVER acknowledged they have any. Not even to this day.. 4. Israel has NEVER threatened to use nuclear weapons on any of its Arab neighbors. And NO Israeli politician would escape criminal prosecution by their OWN people, were they to launch a first strike on an Arab nation that was not, in fact, threatening to nuke them first. 5. The Iraqi and Iranian governments, and even that of N. Korea, desire nuclear weapons for one primary reason. To create "coerced legitimacy" for their illegitimate regimes. Possession of nuclear weapons by these states would not maintained solely within the 6. The UN, if it's to have any credibility at all, must not abide permitting ANY non-democratic government from obtaining nuclear weapons. And this means N. Korea and Iraq. Again Len.. The Israelis have not threatened anyone with nuclear weapons... They refuse to acknowledge they have any because it would provide their Arab despots some public rationale for obtaining them. And IMO, this is fine. It's like putting an NRA sticker on your vehicle. You may, or may not, actually have a pistol in your vehicle, but there's NO ONE who wants to find out... Thus, what you seek to do, namely "uncloak" the actual status of Israeli nuclear weaons with inspections, would create MORE turmoil in the region. Now were I to see the Israeli government tossing around nuclear threats against their neighbors, then I could see building some pressure upon them for inspections. But so long as they are "good" and not threatening to make any Arab nation extinct, then it's good enough for me.. And besides, the US can QUICKLY cut off all financial assistance to Israel should they get out of line with their alleged nuclear arsenal. Bottom line... Israel is the LEAST OF OUR WORRIES.. Of course, your dysfunctional and seriously biased logic has impressed upon you, somehow, that Israel is enemy #1 in the world. That they are far more likely to use nuclear weapons in a first strike than any Arab state. Len.. you can hate the Israelis all you like, that's your right.. But I want a bit more objectivity on this thread, and certainly out of you.. I'm personally getting sick and tired of how you constantly have to focus on Israeli Zionist conspiracies in nearly every response you make. And you can continue to align your interests with a Islamic militant culture that takes pride in blowing up civilians.. You can continue to remain oblivious to the repercussions of creating non-democratic nation states as a response to terrorist tactics. And you can utterly ignore the misery of millions of Iraqi people who have been forced to live in their own version of hell for the past 30 years... But I prefer that you believe all of these things somewhere else... Take your hatred and anti-semitic jew-baiting somewhere else.. Hawk
