I'd say war is about 99.9999999% likely.

I'd say that's about right.. As I heard Togo West put it when he was interviewed the other day.. we're getting into a "glide path" where we're committed..

But did really think that this was going to "go down" any other way?? After all, Saddam has had months to comply.

Saddam has had since Bush's speech at the UN, and certainly since the 15-0 UN vote, to comply FULLY and VOLUNTARILY... There would have been few external repercussions to a voluntary confession of having continued his WMD program.

But both the inspection process, and Saddam's cooperation, have been ridiculous. To date, we've only had ONE token visit to a "presidential palace" by UN inspectors.

Thus, the only way we're going to see Iraq complying is by a US overthrow of Saddam's regime and intensive inspection carried out by US forces.

The question is whether Saddam is willing to sacrifice his entire family clan in Takrit trying to widen the war to include Israel. I don't think he'll be able to, and I don't believe he'll use chemical weapons there, since that would only add to international sympathy for the Jews and justify his overthrow.

But it depends on if his priorities are centered around his own place in history, or the well-being of his family and heirs.
