energyplay,

A reasonable investor might wish to ponder possible additional risks... What risks, presuming any at all, are there of default on any significant portion of the bond fund's holdings? Just for the sake of argument, I would define "significant" as "a meaningful and measurable impact upon the fund's total return"... What risks, if any, are there of a sudden return to higher interest rates within Europe (relative to the US dollar)?

I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with the fund that you selected as an example. I'm just saying that the risks associated with investing in bonds (any bonds, including munis, high-yield, corporate or government) may be significantly higher than the average Joe-6-Pack might think.
