California State of the State Address
Gov. Gray Davis delivered his 2002 State of the State address on the same day (1/8) GOP gubernatorial hopeful Richard Riordan unveiled political ads lambasting Davis on education and the economy. Davis dedicated a hearty chunk of his talk to anti-terrorism, honoring Californians killed in the Sept. 11 attacks and praising his own efforts to ensure residents are safe from future threats. In discussing the state's budget woes, Davis said education monies will be protected above every other issue and choosing his words carefully, he said he will not "advocate raising taxes."
