we're to far from feb expiration for max pain to be meaningful

The answer is it is too early to tell.
No way of knowing what calls or puts will be opened or closed in the next two-three weeks.

Panic always overrides max pain.
This would be more interesting if this was expiry week.

Too much time before we worry about the max pain vs panic trump card.
