poll numbers are also another way for each side to manipulate the masses depending on how the poll questions are put together. You can quite often determine how to get the result you want from a poll by the way the question is formed.

I really don't want to go "back there," but nobody has ever been as poll driven as Clinton. Nobody.

Just read the books and essays on this, and you can see that Clinton practically walked around with them in his hand. Rove polls, but nowhere near to the amount that Clinton did.
