Cisco lays off 50 in Maple Grove

Cisco Systems laid off 50 of its 65 employees at its Maple Grove-based NuSpeed Internet Systems subsidiary. Cisco, based in San Jose, Calif., bought NuSpeed for $450 million in 2000 at the height of the Internet boom. Cisco described the layoffs as part of a corporate strategy to focus on profitable products. A spokeswoman said the remaining Maple Grove employees would focus on enhancing the NuSpeed product, a router that links corporate storage area networks with the Internet.
