Questions:

I note that Paragraph 14 of Resolution 687 contains the following language:

"the actions to be taken by Iraq in paragraphs 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 of the present resolution represent steps towards the goal of establishing in the Middle East a zone free from weapons of mass destruction and all missiles for their delivery and the objective of a global ban on chemical weapons."

To what extent is the Middle East, apart from Iraq, free from weapons of mass destruction? Is it not true that US warships with nuclear missiles regularly patrol the waters of this region? Is it not true that Israel also possesses nuclear weapons? Is it reasonable for the US to expect to maintain such a monopoly or duopoly on WMD in the Middle East?

Bush is saying to Saddam: "Unilaterally disarm or we will annihilate you?"

Is it reasonable to expect willing compliance with the spirit of such a declaration?
