"As a result of..." "the markets did..."
What they were going to do anyway...
The structure is still amazing, though.

…72-year bubble needs to unwind. If this was the Pax Romana (about 200-years of peace under the Roman Empire, if memory serves) we'd still be dropping.

Interesting point. I think it is also interesting to recall that Pax Romana was not all that peaceful. In order to maintain peace, the Romans had to suppress rather harshly anything, which they perceived as a threat.

i am tired now so can't give my counter thesis now:) But in the end we are getting entangled in that puzzle of what comes first, the chicken or the egg.
We will rally on the oversold weekly charts, o.k. So that means it was TA that did it? Or is TA is just telling us we will get to oversold and that a bear market rally will commence due to the underlying cause which was the uncertainty about war and economics; in short Anxiety??
Chicken or the egg?? I firmly believe the two, the Chicken and the Egg are inseparable, you must consider both.
TA(Weekly charts) screamed, howled and banged pans saying the COMPX was acutely overbought in December 3,1999.
I at that time shifted to going 100% long because i surrendered and said the TA was just plain wrong and Mass Psychology had taken control(because TA, ironically, was actually saying that, it was revealing Mania was afoot).
TA by March 31st(weekly chart) started to signal the end is nigh and i was fortunate enough to catch on and was out and all cash by April 7th.
Chicken or the Egg.
I choose both. PaxMax

BTW, what little i understand of E-wave(there is much i don't know) it would seem logical the the 5th up wave(or 9th wave, whatever it is?:) in a Secular Bull Market should be a PROLONGED acutely overbought time period and the 5th wave in a culminating Secular Bear Market should be a PROLONGED oversold event.
That at the end of both i would expect ordinary buy or sell signals to be Disregarded, and thus the signature for a final top or bottom(that is on a weekly charting period).
That is at the time that when the weekly chart IGNORES acutely oversold, we are finding true bottom.Max
