There are laws that have been passed in California as a result of direct democracy that I wouldn't consider "mob rule" laws.

I voted for and enjoyed the benefits of prop 13. You have to get a lot of petitions signed and do one hell of a lot of work to pass a proposition in Calif, and that's great.

However the growth in influence of special interest groups and the dollar has outpaced the influence of the American people.

I have found that most people who agree with the above want to make it easier to take from the rich and give to the poor. They find that the nasty rich people use their money and influence to stop them from taking their property and handing out the wealth of the country to everybody with their hand out. Too bad.
