it's not like gold can't be replaced by another metal for electronics.

Seriously, what provides more benefit to society, 6 oz of gold or a Cisco 2500 router? Heck the gold just sits there looking pretty while the router passes a bunch of bits and allows you to look at internet porn.

How about 60oz of gold vs. a Honda civic? That honda lets me drive to work or the store or to a friend's house. The gold...yup, just sitting there looking pretty.

OK, OK, a couple of those ounces of gold are passing raw electrons around and one of them is coating some glass somehere, but most of it is just looking pretty someplace.
