The benefits of life in the U.S. you've outlined are directly linked to our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Our Democratic Republic serves as the foundation to the quality of life others find so alluring.

There is no relationship between population density and starvation. If there were, Japan would be a wasteland instead of the vibrant center of commerce it is today, with one of the highest per-capita incomes in the world.

The major component to starvation is lack of economic freedom. China has staved off the same kind of starvation rampant in North Korea, because, Mao died and the "Gang of Four," lost in the power struggle which ensued. After solidify his authority, Deng Xiaoping should be given credit for recognizing the failures of socialist economics.

Deng steered a new course from Mao's rigid central controls. He abolished the collectivized agricultural system, encouraged private plots to raise products to sell in the marketplace, and encouraged joint ventures with foreign firms to bring additional investment to China. Although he called it "socialism with Chinese characteristics. " it was an abandonment of marxism.

Eventually, a leader will emerge in China who will take the next step. And allow political dissent and free speech rights to Chinese citizens. When that happens, Taiwan will have annexed China, not the other way around.

I see by your user profile you've been on SI for 6+ years. I presume you've been in the states for at least this long. You say that you're only here for economic reasons. And you seem to be planning on staying till you retire.

In my own case, I do not think I can get a decent job if I go back to China now. But for sure, I would stay my retirement life back in China in future.

I wonder if you've considered going into business back in China? I know a fellow who made a bunch of money selling aluminum screen doors in Venezuela a few decades back. Seems to me Chinese will be buying a rapidly growing number of screen doors and air conditioners and cars and etc. in the future. This might be a great time to be opening muffler and brake shops and many other things over there.
