I would love to be setting in on that luncheon today that Bush is having with the "Talking Heads." I don't remember this type of treatment of the Media before. The Print media must be really pissed over it. I wonder if Raines got an invite? :>) Well, the question of the moment in my household is whether either of us will watch. My guess is that I will and my wife, whose feelings are much stronger than mine, won't. I gather the PR stuff is that Bush will spend the first half on domestic stuff and the second half on a host of other things--homeland security, terror, Iraq, whatever. It looks like they are punting right now, that the general consensus against an immediate invasion is so strong, they will try to postpone and find some means to save face. Scott posted a Robin Wright LATimes piece that sounded about right to me. The US would try to get a new resolution out of the UNSC with a new timetable. The debate was over the length--30 days to 60s days. Thus, I've changed my mind since yesterday. Yesterday I thought tonight's speech would be important; now I'm moving toward feeling it will not. But my track record on these things is miserable. As for Raines, I doubt. As I read the public notice of the "private" lunch, aren't we cute, it was to be the anchors, hoping for even the slightest spin in the evening news. Like you, it's going to be interesting to see if there is any positive or negative fallout of the dem strategy to go before the National Press Club yesterday. My own guess is that it will be the tree that falls in the forest that no one sees. Too much other stuff out there. Only us junkies know what the dems say right now. Or care.
