I think this is a market being propped up. There is nothing bullish about our market and the VIX, VXN and put call do not reflect any sort of panic. A lot of people before me have discussed this, but I just keep following that VXN triangle.

Could we get a strong bounce after the SOTU speech. Sure, but even if we do, I think it will be short lived. Short stocks with huge call positions in February and small put positions. That is what I have done.

I tend to disagree. What I've been seeing the past several days has been happening close to expectations. The TRINQ has been very helpful in that respect. If the charts are hard to read, TRINQ gives some fabulous perspective into short term market direction. Also, when Les' scans get buried like they are, we need to pause for a bit.

Patterns work up to a point. When we get near a bottom, you've got to look at more stuff, IMO. The Mc indicator, for example, is pretty buried right now. That needs to correct up a bit. It's at levels seen only a couple times the past year (all major lows).
