Z-- I am well aware that Turkey and others are secular governments in Islamic countries. In fact, I thought that was apparent in my post. Perhaps my wording was awkward. However, crimes against humanity are judged by, as all crimes, the context. I am not prepared, not are you, to be the judge. I do want a procedure to evolve, and it seems to be evolving, that holds people accountable. Now--to the topic that you seem to be avoiding. Do you doubt that there are serious reasons for believing that Saddam Hussein has committed crimes against humanity? If not, then we must define terms better. If so, should we ignore them by stating that others are also guilty? My questions relate specifically to Saddam. I'll be delighted to discuss the 15th century slaughter of Jews at Mainz, if you wish, or the slaughter in Viet Nam, or Hiroshima. But Saddam is the current issue. fred
