What will happen, and I am willing to bet money on this, is that right after the invasion of Iraq, the concessions to develop Iraq's oil fields will be awarded to US companies.

Not a chance. In fact, they'll bend over backwards to avoid all appearance of exactly what you mention.

It is naivete bordering on stupidity to think for a minute that Bush et al have nothing to do with these companies.

Did you see them all flying in on their black helicopters?

OPEC will not cease to exist and will continue to regulate oil prices, this time with the cooperation of Russia whose
oil is much deeper (and costlier to extract)

OPEC hasn't been able to "regulate" oil prices for some time now. Don't you remember $10 oil just three years ago?

If OPEC has such a grip on oil, why has the real price of it not gone up since the 70's?

Russia joining OPEC? Not likely, and quite a reach for you to defend your argument with a wild hypothetical. Must not be a very strong argument to begin with.
