I simply do not see any possible positive argument for stocks

few do

several ways to keep your net worth in check

balance, diversification and protection

real estate, cash, bonds, stocks

owning your home is the best RE value

always keep a chunk of cash

bonds - I like the safer ones, poor returns, but safe

stock can be: long term, short term, shorting, mutual funds [value and shorting funds right now]

always will have at least one foot in the winners circle

you could add metals and investment collecting [such as autos, art and antiques] I spose

but I've always thought metals fickle

and investment collecting only on things you really love and have an understanding of
