Brooks-PRI writes down value of Shinsung warrants

Tuesday February 4, 9:44 am ET

CHELMSFORD, Mass., Feb 4 (Reuters) - Brooks-PRI Automation Inc. (NasdaqNM:BRKS - News) said on Tuesday it will record an $11.5 million charge to write down the carrying value of warrants to buy about 4 million shares of Korea's Shinsung Engineering Co. Ltd. (KSE:11930.KS - News)

The company, which makes tools used to move components around microchip factories, said it had sold back the warrants to Shinsung last month for $500,000. The warrants had originally been acquired by PRI Automation before it merged with Brooks Automation.

The impairment charge reflects a write-down of the carrying value of the assets, which had been determined using the Black-Scholes valuation model. The charge will increase the net loss for the company's already reported fourth quarter by $11.8 million, the company said.
