It is tough for a liberal to understand that Bush isn't driven by polls the way Clinton was.

Its not hard because its fantasy.

I heard discussion today about how Clinton would be editing his State of the Union speech on the way to the chamber, to adjust for recent polls, while Bush's has been in the can, largely untouched, for a week.

Who told you that Clinton modified his speech on his way to the S of the U because of the polls.......the then Speaker of the House? Its unbelievable what concoction you will come up with to make your point. Why don't you tell us you have lunch with Bush every Wed. and be done with it. Then, no one could ever counter your 'insider' info.
