KLP,

I agree that the war is imminent, I also agree that the case is clear. My complaint is that Bush gave those who have real doubts nothing tonight. A divided country is a powerful thing for an enemy to use. It is a large strategy error to leave so much of the country unsure. Watch where the propoganda come from over the next few days. Bush is leaving himself vulnerable to a full scale domestic split a la Vietnam. It is very short sighted, IMNSHO. If there is another terror attack in the name of retaliation, the country won't look like it did after 9-11, it will be very divisive.

Paul

Agree with that, well said.

I think it was well calculated in the way it was structured... Knowing the Dems had already been typically trying to undercut him with pre-speech attacks about his credibility (I still cant believe Daschle said yesterday that there was no proof of WMD's). Bush's team adjusted, opened with domestics and those very effective Aids and Help bits... And then swooped in with an effective summary of facts about Hussein and setting the stage for Powell.

The dems showed their hand yesterday (again) and now their whole response strategy was undermined.

It will be taboo to call Powell's credibility into question when he has presented evidence to the UN. Seen his approval ratings lately??

ALso, if the dems do it they will sound exactly like the Iraqis and be seen on the same newscasts making almost identical statements to Iraq's UN Ambassador or Tariq Aziz or whomever the Iraqi's have speaking. Not that some dems wont still do it.

Since this shift was just orchestrated since yesterday - it will definitely add to the Rove legend.

Of course, the final grade on this wont come until Powell's delivery and presentation are successful (if?).

If it works, maybe Rove should be at State? Tie OLD EUROPE in knots...
