And Bush takes personally the anti-American theme adopted by German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder in his re-election campaign last year. Warmer relations with France and Germany won't come again soon. A foreign leader who asked if Bush had talked to Chirac was told that the president was only talking to friends these days.
