Exactly the point. The "Bully Pulpit" along with policy direction have vast influence on confidence, investment, consumption parts of the economy, especially when on the brink.

The Bully Pulpit has succeeded tonite in calling for war, gleefully announcing the assassination of some unstated number outside of the stated 3,000 arrested for suspected terrorism, and declaring no further proof for making Iraq into rubble, and making the rubble bounce. Not confidence-inducing. Makes Junior look like a bloodthirsty Texas governor eager to pull the switch.

The investment community speaks more honestly with it's dollars than TV pundits do. Tomorrow we should normally see a bounce after 8 days of downward direction and a state of the union speech, but considering the lack of any good news from tonight's speech, I doubt it will last.

A well-written speech, earnestly rehearsed, without substance. Even the AIDS reference and senior drug benefits are suspect in their execution.

The risk is that without some good policy news for the economy and this rush towards war, we could be headed in a downward spiral.

So apparently you think it will help if people believe Bush had nothing to do with the crash and recession.

Reasonable. It did start in March 2000 before he even had the nomination.

This is not the first recession this country has had, nor will it be the last. Even if we achieve the socialist heaven so many desire.
