The last I'd heard about that sort of thing was Freeman Dyson's project, and read his book on it. It'd be an interesting way to dispose of 20,000 nukes sitting around Russia getting unstable.

Exploring the heavens might finally unite humanity in a noble project of research and colonization, and enable us to channel ambition in a grand effort of discovery as we go from planet to planet, with their several moons, and see more closely what is special to each, and what each might offer. Who knows what spin-off technology we might develop, or what mineral wealth might be available, or whether colonization would prove ultimately congenial? Meanwhile, in a century or two, we might finally be in a position to contemplate the exploration of the stars......
