I could see that happening but I'd have to have a lot of faith on those indexes before I'd wan't to trade the derivatives. Whatever they track would have to be very concrete and not easy to manipulate.

Just one, not-so-minor glitch:

One problem with all of these strategies is that they ultimately depend on something that doesn't yet exist: a steady supply of speculators who want to take the other side of the transaction from the homeowners.
