"I'd root for the US Forces... and the Iraqi civilian population hoping that both will suffer as few casualties as possible."

Amen! Jochen,
I am such a bleeding heart that after the Gulf War, i got into a heated argument on the morality of killing tens of thousands of iraqi troops in the desert in trenches with bombing, literally burying them alive. I remember saying it was kind of like a street gang beating up stevie wonder. In time i came to believe that saddam had their blood on his hands too, because he sent poor Stevie Wonder out to fight the US military in the first place. I hope he relents this time. Another out for saddam would be a pre-war surrender of all wmds. He would most probably get to stay in power, and he could concentrate on economic might instead of political power. Just dreaming, because although i loved bush's speech i am tempered by what follows. War is always an uncertain proposition. mike
