My Qualcomm GSP-1600 G* handset worked extremely well.

When I would call someone to "test" it, I typically called the person first from my Sprint PCS handset, because :

I wanted to make sure I would get to talk to a human, instead of an answering machine.

I was already standing outside.

and

I have free long distance with Sprint PCS.

I think every single time, when I was calling via Globalstar satellite, the person I had called told me "this sounds better than Sprint PCS."

Some told me that it sounded like a land line (not everyone; the call quality does vary).

I never used my G* phone outside of Florida (although I did lend it to a group that took it to Afghanistan for a brief period. It turned out that they had normal cell phone coverage where they were. But, they felt better knowing they had sat. phone "back-up"), so ...

I don't know about this mountain stuff.

Unless you are in some crazy canyon type situation, I do not think it would be a problem.

Jon.

P.S. My G* handset is now lent to a relative of mine.
