you are right in that i dont need two routers

i placed the d-link first in line from the cable modem

after getting the three windows pc's connected into it (2 cable, 1 wireless), i was able to get them all "networked"

actually it was still very difficult to get XP to be seen and see the other computers. I ran network wizard at least 9 times and it never seemed to add it to the network. I could browse and everything but couldnt connect to or from the ohter comps to the XP laptop.
The only way I got it to work was a net use g:\\home-1\...
either this was a coincidence or it is what it took to open the door to the XP system. Linksys is now plugged into the dd-link and the x-box works just fine going into the linksys

i cant ping the linksys @ 192.168.1.1 but the xbox works fine any ideas how that works?
