FRENCH OPPOSE IRAQ WAR

Three out of four French people are opposed to France taking part in military action against Iraq, a survey suggests.

Seventy-six percent of respondents did not want France to get involved, even if the UN voted in favour of military action, according to the poll for weekly publication Le Journal du Dimanche.

This was up from 65 percent in a poll which asked the same question last September.

Only 19 percent said they were in favour of France joining a war, down from 34 percent in September.

Five percent were undecided, compared with one percent in the previous survey.

The survey quizzed 977 adults by telephone on January 10.

President Jacques Chirac told French troops on Tuesday to prepare for "anything that may happen" but stressed that war should be a last resort and warned the US against any unilateral action.

French officials have ruled out military participation in action against Iraq without the approval of the UN Security Council, of which France is a veto-wielding member.

"When asked whether the United States was more interested in achieving stability in the region or more interested in controlling Iraqi oil reserves, majorities in Russia (76 percent), France (75 percent), and Germany (54 percent) said "the U.S. wants to control Iraqi oil." In Great Britain, the public was evenly divided on the question"

Methinks thay are "projecting" their own interests..

THANK YOU so much for clarifying this! The French have LONG been noted for their altruism and for taking account of the feelings of other nations.

Remember nuclear tests in the South Pacific? Greenpeace? A ship exploded?

France, Germany and Russia
Funniest thing. Those are EXACTLY the nations that would be hurt by toppling Saddam's regime and stand to benefit from the status quo. And two of the three are on the Security Council and apparently plan to use their vetoes.

The French? Play oil politics? Nah. Never occur to them.

ROTFLMAO!!!!

How naive can you get, commie?

Or, maybe more to the point, how naive do you think everyone else is?
