You might have to shut down the control centre (mind you I have never tried it).. right click on AVG icon on the task bar and that should give you that option..

I ran into some trouble with my HP all in one machine when I moved it to my newer XP machine. They mailed me a copy (free) or their XP drivers on the outside chance that my download of those drivers was the problem. When those CDRom drivers still didn't work they figured out that the problem was in my BIOS. HP printers use a different configuration than some of the others. We changed those settings and it's worked great ever since. It is the printer for my entire NETWORK which at one point had win95, 98 and XP machines writing to it

My tech support person was very helpful really seemed to know her stuff. I'd explore the BIOS issue next

click - start - run -type -msconfig

click on startup tab - uncheck -avg in the box and u might have to reboot , that should disable avg
