CB,

Well, I think the handwriting is clearly on the wall now, so to speak, and AOL is in really deep doggie doo... If one looks at the numbers, virtually the entire $45B loss comes out of shareholders' equity from the Time-Warner unit. AOL also accounts for virtually all of the $54B loss in the first(?) quarter of the year. That's almost $100B down the crapper.

Let's see. In the past few months or so, Gerald Levin (CEO?), Bob Pittman (COO?), and Steve Case (CoB) have all gone bye-bye. Now add Ted Turner to that list. I think their house is darn near empty by now. If one were to call AOL on the telephone, one would likely hear the echo of a pin dropping on the other end of the line.

I only "knew" (in the cyber-sense) a few souls that bragged about being employed by AOL. The few I "knew" struck me as being arrogant in the extreme, apparently a prerequisite for being employed by AOL. What goes around comes around, I guess...

KJC

CB,
You may want to try a forwarding service like BigFoot. Set your family up with their own <somename>@BIgFoot.Com.

On the Bigfoot site you can update (controlled and changeable by you anytime) the 'forwarding' address, in this case the AOL addresses in question.

ie. set up KID1@BigFoot.Com redirected to KID1@AOL.Com. Now yo can take your time advising everyone of your new addresses. Anyone using the old one still gets through until you actually turf AOL.

When you are ready to pull the plug on AOL simply go to the BigFoot site and update the 'redirection' address to your new email. This will be completely transparent to your correspondents as they continue to send mail to your BigFoot alias.

I've used it for years now as I soon got fed up advising folks when I changed ISP's. I pay nothing for the basic service which is fine for me and my family for personal mail as I have my own domain for business. The free one is limitted to 25 free forwards.

Here is the site. bigfoot.com

Changing 'real' emails is never again a problem.

regards
Kastel
