Bush cleverly conned the US last night in these areas:
Maybe there are more but boy oh boy was he dishonest in his omissions:
1) Pres. drugs benefits - didn't say seniors have to give up Medicare and sign an HMO to get it
2) Cleaning up corporate corruption? Kenny Lay is still free.
3) Hydrogen cars - testing only for 5 years when they are just about ready to go NOW, and watch Bush tell moderates and liberals "you can only have this is you let us drill in wilderness areas, and give the oil companies 12 billion in tax incentives to do it" (something like that)
4) Leave no child behind. Just slashed education promised funding in half and that is why Teddy Kennedy walked out. He was stabbed in the back after Bush used Kennedy last year.
5) States going bankrupt. Bush boasts of lower taxes federally but higher state taxes will make up for it.
6) Called for prudent spending but is awarding Carlyle Group 11 billion for a useless Crusader weapons system. Some thriftiness. Not to mention premature SDI deployment.
7) AIDS funding - has rejected this until the GOP realized it must attract minority voters to win.
8) Criticizes HMO's but the fine print will REWARD them big-time.
9) Clean air and water and forest initiative: all plundered by polluting and timber interests, zero enforcement, trying to deny citizens groups the ability to due, worst assault on the environment of our lifetimes.
10) Tax cuts for average Americans. Someone like Cheney will save $500,000 per year and probably hire no one new except maybe a new gardener. Average Americans get $1000 maybe but fuel and state taxes are much higher.
11) Worry about deficits later? Just wait until the real estate boom ends and see what deficits do to our economy.
12) Dividend tax relief for seniors? Try for big investors. Seniors or soon-to-be retirees have stocks in IRA's and this doesn't affect them. Few average seniors will get anything.

I could go on and on --- but this turkey doesn't fly.

PS - Can't wait to see their "evidence" on Iraq. Why doesn't Bush just admit he desperately wants to take over Iraq and do it? All a silly game now. And for one main reason, oil. Makes sense too if you're the oil industry's President. Now that reason I would believe.

PSS - All politicians talk in slogans and sometimes BS us, Bush just more than any in memory

George: a very plausible theory. it also fits in with Jass's writings.

crossed my mind too a few times lately. But then again, we Europeans all think so dirty...
