Hillary Clinton is warning that Saddam Hussein will likely strike back at the U.S. and attack Americans abroad if President Bush makes war on Iraq, and she's urging that U.N. weapons inspectors be allowed more time. "If we do [attack Iraq] then we've got to be ready for retaliation, not just on our own shores, but against Americans all over the world," Clinton, D-N.Y., said just five days before President Bush's State of the Union address last night, in an exclusive interview with WLIE-NY radio host Mike Siegel. "We are not yet ready to take that on, in my view," added Clinton, her party's presidential front-runner in four major polls since Al Gore dropped out of the race on Dec. 15. Clinton acknowledged that Saddam Hussein was "a megalomanic" who was "looking for the control of weapons of mass destruction." And she noted that she had supported the Iraq resolution authorizing President Bush to make war on Baghdad. But her remarks to Siegel indicated a change of heart. "Personally I think we ought to let the inspectors, you know, do some more work and try to make sure that we have more people with us than we do right now," she told WLIE before issuing her warning that the U.S. isn't ready to take on Saddam. Clinton's comments on Iraq, as well as the tongue-lashing she gave the Bush White House for "mishandling" North Korea - not to mention her attack on the Bush administration for not stopping Osama bin Laden before 9/11 - have been ignored by the mainstream press. newsmax.com
