I always said the war is for the oil. Do you mean that unless Saddam’s regime is deposed Iraq would refuse to sell oil? Or, do you think that the USA would go through all this hoopla in order to give a couple of privately held oil companies an imagined advantage, which they would not have had in open competition? I was never able to understand this ubiquitous recent "War for Oil" argument. Would you kindly explain? TIA.

When have I ever said that? Said? Never... Nor did I state that.. I was referring to this subconscious discussion of a "US vs Iraq", or "Bush vs Iraq", rather than "US vs Saddam"... etc... Here is what you stated: I mean, Bush used Iraq to rally the country behind him in the latest elections. So what? Governments do use international issues to strengthen their position internally and abroad. Since when is this grounds to invade a country? It should read "Bush used Saddam.. etc".. Because that's what this is CLEARLY about.. It is NOT a war against the Iraqi people. It is a war against Saddam and his clan. The people who will benefit most will be those Iraqis who have either been forced into exile, or who have been oppressed by Saddam's regime. the Iraqi civilians will die in thousands if the war takes place. Only if they are shooting at us, or hanging around military installations.. IMO. There will be civilian casualities.. that just can't be avoided.. But this is going to be a hunt for Saddam... Just like the Invasion of Panama was a hunt for Noriega. And there approx 300 civilian casualties there, although even those numbers are in question since many "civilians" were actually part of Noriega's "dignity battalions" and were carrying weapons. Hawk
