Lehman sees muted expectations for Dell's Q1 (DELL) By Tomi Kilgore

Analyst Dan Niles at Lehman Bros. believes Dell Computer (DELL) will meet fiscal fourth quarter expectations, but thinks first quarter expectations will be muted due to weak U.S. demand, pricing pressures and ongoing geo-political risks. Niles maintained his "equal-weight" rating and $30 price target. The stock closed Thursday down $1.15 at $24.18.

Dell Announces New Portfolio of Services for K-12 Education Market; Services Designed to Help School Districts Address Demands of `No Child Left Behind' Legislation

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 5, 2003--Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today announced the Dell School Architecture, a new portfolio of services designed to make it easier for the educators of kindergarteners through high school students to meet the rigorous demands of the 'No Child Left Behind' legislation.

The Dell School Architecture, offered through Dell Services, includes a variety of tailored services to help school districts aggregate and report the yearly progress of their students, as well as provide teachers with professional development.

Dell Services will work directly with education customers to design a program of support, deployment and training offerings to address the needs of each school, district or state government agency

-- from the classroom to school administration to the behind-the-scenes networking and infrastructure that connects them together.

As one example, Dell can arrange for a series of professional development courses for teachers in a school district, where educators will go through a comprehensive training program to help them understand how to use their Dell systems and how to apply them to a classroom setting.

As one of the first customers to take advantage of the Dell School Architecture, Clayton County (Georgia) Public Schools has purchased nearly $8 million in Dell technology and related services to create a high-tech learning environment for the 48,000 students in the district. The teachers in the school district will go through a technology training program when they receive their new Dell(tm) Latitude(tm) notebooks, instructing them on how to quickly integrate the technology into the classroom. (See related announcement.)

"Education customers are looking to solve a set of increasingly complex problems, from integrating technology into the classroom to reporting student performance," said Scott Campbell, Dell's director of K-12. "Our objective is to offer a broad suite of services that helps our education customers accomplish these goals. This allows them to stay focused on their important mission of educating our children and preparing them for the workforce of tomorrow."

Kemble Hi, Bought Dell at 23.18 today. I've been long on Dell for years, and couldn't resist adding to my dell position at this price and with these current market conditions. I think Dell and market may continue with it's downward bias for awhile longer, but I'm not waiting any longer. I hope you and your family are doing well. You may not remember me, but my wife and I had dinner with you and your wife and son and Patrick at ?O'Sullivans at the share holder meeting 3 years ago. I've been lurking for years but rarely post (don't have much to add), but I do enjoy your posts. Thanks for your contributions.
