It depends on this and that. If you are comparing the public to Prometheus, then you seem to be suggesting they will be chained to a rock and have their entrails picked out (presumably an allusion to the costs of space exploration). If you are comparing the space program to Prometheus, then you are saying that mankind will live in eternal gratitude for the "gift of fire", that is, further enlightenment. I suppose there may be one or two other possible interpretations, as well.....
