It appears to me that this may indeed be true.

Such a tactic--if true, a big if--ignores the merits of the campaign, all of which are set forth in Pollack's book. No need to repeat them. And it ignores the fact that there are zero indications that Bush is not comfortable perched on the edge of this theoretical limb, or that he walked on it with eyes wide open.

Is Pollack a part of the war marketing effort? I don't think so. But his thinking is being ignored by all of those here who oppose the war. Not much discussion of his views, which provide a cogent rationalization for the campaign.

Plus, the business about the war on Iraq being planned shortly after 9/11 is a non-sequitur. It draws a yawn and a "so what?" from me. More importantly, the timing, if true, shows a heightened consciousness towards national security and foreign relations issues, which I welcome.

Wow. I posted the 'make America forget Watergate' scenario to illustrate absurdity with absurdity. Now it is la meme du jour. Life imitates absurdity. I suppose Richard Perle must have pictures Colin Powel trowling from teenie boppers with Scott Ritter. The problem with evil plots and conspiracies is that they are very hard to operationalize. Did Occam's Razor take a holiday? Why don't the Joint Chiefs just say no or leak like crazy? Why has nobody with working knowledge of the WH broken ranks, for the book deal if nothing else? Why doesn't Bob Woodward twig to it at all (he caught Watergate, didn't he?). Why aren't the French and Germans coming right out and saying 'there is no proof, it's all American evil'?

More importantly, where is the evidence that Bush has demonstrated this kind of pure evil, damn the consequences, kill 'em all attitude?

I think the folks who believe that Bush is bluffing but will take the country to war because he doesn't want to blink might want to give up the fruit loops and switch to wheaties in the morning. Get them ole neurotransmitters firing.

Paul

p.s. If Powell doesn't deliver compelling evidence to back the administrtion case, it will be the right that turns on Bush.
