I bought the new cable at Radio Shack and wouldn't even think of returning it since I ripped the casing apart and used it.
About the 3 in 1 - one of the reasons I think it might be the device is because when you plug it into the computer even without their software, the Windows Wizard does not even detect it. When I tried plugging in my HP scanner from my other computer, which is also a USB, the Windows Wizard came up right away. Hope I'm right with this and that is all it is. If it isn't, I will once again delete the software, and this time I know how to disable the virus software(LOL),and will do that before reinstalling the HP software and see if that helps.

Lost1 and anyone who was reading my posts from yesterday regarding the problem with the HP750 3 in 1 -

Well, lucky for me, it WAS the unit that was defective. They sent me a new one today and all I did was plug it in and the USB wizard came up - it took all of about 5 minutes to install. Meanwhile the other day I spent about 5 hours troubleshooting - wish I knew that in advance -would have saved me loads of time and aggravation!
