<Nelson Mandela, a very thoughtful man, a very peaceful man with very soft words, with meaningful words, finally had to speak out harshly today about what the world was facing:>

Nelson Mandela hasn't a clue about the situation in Iraq or what the world is facing. His whole country has the HIV. He should concern himself with how he's gonna teach the men in Africa not to sodomize the boys.

I hope that you are realizing each world leader speaks up for what effects him and his country. Nelson Mandella has nothing to fear from Iraq or the terrorists they sponsor, his fear is oil instability leading to economic pressure in S. Africa. Thus, he would not support this. However, considering all we did for him and his race in S. Afr. (if it were not for USA Nelson would still be in prison or worse IMHO) I am very disappointed in his remarks. They of course are UNTRUE and very RUDE. jdn

Speak out harshly= "play the race card".

Mr Howard also said that while he respected former South African president Nelson Mandela, he rejected his suggestion that US President George W Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair were undermining the United Nations because Secretary General Kofi Annan was black.

"I thought his remark suggesting that people are critical of the UN because of Kofi Annan's colour - I thought that was very unfortunate," Mr Howard said.

"I don't think that's a very worthy remark at all and it's just very unfair to make that kind of observation."

Mr Mandela told an audience in Johannesburg yesterday that it was tragic "what Bush is doing in Iraq".

"Both Bush as well as Tony Blair are undermining an idea (the United Nations) which was sponsored by their predecessors," he said.

"Is this because the secretary-general of the United Nations (Ghanaian Kofi Annan) is now a black man? They never did that when secretary-generals were white."

Like this is the first time the US and the UN disagreed. He's sounding like a senile Harry Belafonte.
