Any thoughts on that as anything but a lagging indicator?===

the summation lags a bit, but lately it has kept you on the right side of the trade if you trade in the direction it's going, it's based upon the oscillator which is more st, the thing you have to base this indicator on, is the market breadth moving in unison with the market averages, it did move well out of step during the blow-off phase from from the 98 lows and started getting back in step after the big washout at the december 2000 lows and the april 2001 lows.

So now the summation index is acting again as an overbought oversold indicator.

Lagging indicators can be like lucretious calling for the great crash in october 98 and declaring all bulls clowns, kind of like kissing your sister (an ugly 400 pound sister with a goiter -g-) or lagging indicators can smooth out the ripples, the best surfers don't catch every wave at the pipeline.
