Woman Expelled From Russia Is Released

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30 — A 34-year-old American woman expelled from Russia after being accused of offering to help Islamic terrorists stage attacks in the United States was released by the federal authorities early today after being interviewed several hours at Los Angeles International Airport.

No charges were filed against the woman, Megan McRee, who had been living in Moscow.

The Russian authorities said Ms. McRee, whose last address in the United States was in Oklahoma City, had tried to contact terrorist groups including Al Qaeda. The American authorities said the reports had not been corroborated.

In a letter posted on the Internet, Ms. McRee said she had been targeted by United States intelligence officials because she has a high I.Q.

According to news reports from Moscow, an official with the Federal Security Service there said Ms. McCrea had contacted several Muslim and terrorist organizations by e-mail, offering to help prepare attacks, including in the United States.
