My reading all along.

Ex-addicts are far more zealous than others--their priorities change somehow. I think this may be part of the emotional mix fueling his determination. I'm not articulating the point very well, I know, but it's a slippery one.

We've been very lucky to have someone like Bush who will set aside political self-preservation for the bigger things. As you say, time will tell if he was on the right track. My instincts are that he is.

Yep, I grew to like Gergen. And missed his observations on the McNeil Lehrer report after he left.

Glad I could get you "fuming." Any other buttons you would be willing to let me know about. I would be happy to push them. ;-)

As for Bush and his religious convictions, I have little doubt Gergen is correct. And that worries me the most. People on a "mission from God" don't take practical issues seriously.

I still think we are in for very serious trouble. I hate to think it but it hangs around. And your comment about his religious convictions only both reminds me of that and makes me more worried.
