Regarding the meaning of a 95-0 vote, some things have to be self-evident.

Otherwise we have chaos, and democratic expression can't be put into practice - just as with the U.N. (Gee, we didn't really mean we'd actually do something if Saddam didn't cooperate. Maybe we'll just hold off on deciding that he isn't cooperating. Yeah, that's the ticket.)

There may be plenty of tactics used to sway votes in the U.S. senate, but it is still democratic expression put into practice. To suggest further proof is needed that the vote was representative of all sides, especially on a 95-0 vote, seems intellectually dishonest.

I was hoping to find out if Faultline had an opinion on that. That's why I asked him - I was curious why he seemed to be throwing in an opinion supporting another assertion of yours, which was right, but not the main issue.

Of course, we're not trying to come to consensus here, so I support your right to post whatever. Doesn't seem like it comes with the spirit of the thread's goal of a "neutral" point of view though, at times - hence my curiosity at why Faultline jumped in there.

Perhaps I am just too naive about what goes on in the Senate. Maybe you could give me an example of another Senate vote on a particular topic that you can remember, with no dissent, that was forced by the farther extreme of one party.

And if you don't come up with one, can I feel free to keep asking you and making remarks about your inability to meet my request?

Like I said, some things are self-evident. Some things have to be revealed. That's why I posed my question in the post to Faultline.
