US Chicago Purch Mgmt -2: ISM Index To Be Released Mon 31 Jan 10:10 CHICAGO (Dow Jones)--The Purchasing Management Association of Chicago index of area business activity rose to 56.0 in January on a seasonally adjusted basis from a revised 51.7 in December, according to a press release. In December, the index fell to 51.7 from a revised 55.0 in November. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the manufacturing sector and a reading below 50 indicates a contraction. The Chicago survey is watched closely for clues to the index of the Institute for Supply Management, formally the National Association of Purchasing Management.
