Analyzing AT&T "high speed" GPRS

Good to see that people are excited about trying out wireless data services, even if the technology is not quite ready for primetime. The Houston Chronicle writer got 25.2 kbps on his mmode connection. That's actually faster than most reports on current GPRS capabilities that come out of this thread, and close to the advertised rates of 30-50 kbps. But of course, it's slower than the 60-80 kbps that most Vision users can consistently get. $250 for 7.5 MB makes PCS's rate of $100 for unlimited data look cheap. Incidentally, PCS charges 0.3 cents per KB for laptop users with no explicit data plan (compared to the 3 cents/KB charged by ATTWS). Rumor has it that ATTWS will come out with an unlimited mmode plan for $25. It remains to be seen if that plan will include data connectivity with a laptop.
