Bill,
Believe the left confuses being anti-war with fear of the unknown. A minute before the SOTA there was great anxiety. A minute after there was quiet determination. Now fast forward a bit. Of course that 80% number is way high and bush numbers will be lower by next wednesday when Powell goes before the UN. If the evidence he presents is perceived as solid, higher poll numbers again and ones that may stick this time.
The intellectuals of the ideological left of the democratic party as well as on this thread are way out on a limb that Colin Powell, their erstwhile hero may get to saw off. Mike

I think it is going to take more than just doing the "Laundry List" of issues that energize you and the Dem party to beat this guy, John.

Depends on what's on the list and how he fares over the next, say, 12 months. We both know he's gambling his presidency on the Iraq thing and that there is sufficient time to see, obviously, not only the outcome of the invasion, but the longer term consequences. If those don't go well; if the Bush folk continue to push these give away tax policies, go after medicare, step too close to appearing to wish for an overthrow of Roe v Wade. Etc.

As for his numbers, they are invariably up and down. And I've seen nothing yet that indicates they are offer more than shallow support. I think those support numbers were very high and very strong after 9-11; now they are shallow.
