I go to Florida about once a year and housing prices are about 1/3 of Silicon Valley. Most of California is at least 30% cheaper...even some of the beach towns are cheaper.

Manhattan is about the only place that's more expensive.

Spoke with a business professor who had moved from Silicon Valley (Woodside) to Boulder, Colorado. He had something like 36 acres there - more than Larry Ellison (of Oracle has in Woodside). We did a back of the envelope calculation that figured the equivalent land in Woodside would cost over 100 million dollars... he seem very pleased with Boulder. His place cost him under 2 million a few years ago.

This is a very smart guy who has had an income of over 200k for more than ten years...he is very financial secure in Boulder, and in Silicon Valley, he might still have a mortgage.
