I did indeed mean "no reasonable cause".

Do you agree?

I agree theoretically but not in practice. About a year after 9/11, I was not comfortable with some of the things that the Bush administration was doing but I was real hesitant about speaking out because circling around the president had become the thing to do. And when I did speak out, usually, I was censored. It really bothered me but I thought it was just me until I started to get some PMs from people who were afraid to post on this thread because of the fear that they would be censored. And when I say censored, posters would say you were unpatriotic, unAmerican etc. That's why I am sensitive to those slams. Finally, after about the 5th PM, I decided that if you allow people to get away with censoring, then you are as bad as they, and that's when I stopped being very careful and instead, spoke my mind.

This thread is a microcosm of the world.....so what was happening here was happening in most places in the US. People were threatened if they objected to Bush's policies. In fact, Bush and the GOP called many of the Dem. Congressmen unAmerican/unpatriotic when they objected to the proposed war. I think that's why the Dems did so badly in the election. They didn't know how to deal with the kind of censoring they were experiencing.

So yes, I think there was considerable fear to dissent.

BTW I meant to put a <g> beside the freudian slip remark but I was moving to quickly [at the time I had 30+ posts in my inbox and I had 200+ posts to read]and forgot to put the <g> in. <g>
