There is are a bunch of Iranian movies: two are called White Balloon and Children of Paradise. They are family movies about city kids. Both excellent and enjoyable as calm fair about the pace of life. There are other ones about a telecommunications guy waiting for a property rights to expire on a hill (slice of life) "The Wind will carry us", and a love story with Afghanis ethnics in Iran called "Baran" and finally a really bizarre movie about Israeli rightwingers called "Time of Favor". You have to be willing to watch subtitles. But it give a really good flavor of the countries without a political POV. Interesting as a travelogue if nothing else.
