ICIENA VENTURES INC.

The 40,000-acre Spike project may prove to be a significant diamond occurrence close to Winnipeg, Man. The Spike project is in a prime location for an affordable exploration program because of its proximity to the Trans-Canada Highway.

The property was drilled to a depth of 300 metres in 1962 by a division of Selection Trust, as part of a large regional program exploring for base metals. The results of the 1962 drill program resulted in the discovery of a rock type very close to kimberlite in affinity.

In the 1990s, high-quality diamond indicator minerals were found west of the original drill location during a regional survey done by the government of Canada. In 2001, a piece of ultramafic rock was found in a farmer's rock pile 24 miles to the north of the original Selection Trust hole. Three independent laboratories later identified this rock as kimberlite. After confirming the recovered rock as kimberlite, a cluster of magnetic anomalies was staked that include the original drill location to the south and the area that hosted the kimberlite sample. The main group consists of 10 targets that cluster on the west side of a north-south fault. The fault appears to act as a control for the cluster. There is a secondary group of 11 low-intensity targets. The location of the claims is on the western edge of the Superior craton.

The Superior craton is the largest Archean craton in the world, representing 23 per cent of the world's Archean rocks and considered highly prospective in the exploration for primary diamond deposits. The most advanced project on the Superior craton today is DeBeer's Victor pipe, located in the James Bay lowlands. DeBeers announced a prefeasibility study would be undertaken to determine the viability of the Victor project, which would be the first producing diamond mine on the Superior craton.
