Ted Re..........GW is not behind the Saudi proposal...that's something the Saudis have been working on for a couple of months. The Saudis had to make such a proposal in order to keep their people happy.

Even though both Powell and GW have expressed their support, you think GW is against it. Why would you possibly believe that.

By now, you must understand how it works.......the Arab/Muslim world like most worlds are often unhappy with each other and privately they admit that Saddam is a major jerkoff but its their jerkoff and they don't want the US to be messing with him........so they close ranks. So to the US, they say "leave our Saddam alone", and to themselves "what an asshole Saddam is".

And that is why the Arabs will be unlikely to mount a major offensive. Most Iraqis will treat the Americans as liberators for awhile anyway. The provisional gov. will be picked from both the groups abroad and any current army generals left. With a stable gov.; the US will have divided the Arab countries in half, with SA,Jordan,Syria, Lebanon and Egypt ond one side, and Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan on the other. One of Britain's major tenets, was to divide and conquer. It will take the Arabs a long time to mount any offensive on Iraq, and in the meantime, Iran just might convert to democracy, effectively ending the terrorist war, as none of the remaining countries will be strong enough.

The Saudis have enough unrest without fueling more; thus the Saddam exile proposal. And GW said he would go along with it. In short, this was no brainstorm of the Bush administration.

The Saudi's know full well the dangers of having a pro western Iraq. On the other hand, the US could transfer the personal and equipment in Bahrain to Iraq, thus ending a major source of strife between the US and SA.; and still have enough manpower to control the region. It could very well be SA brainstorm, but GW was smart enough to grab it, and put the onus on Saddam.
